Shane Perkins for Commonwealth Gold!

Yesterday I had the chance to shoot Shane Perkins (for DTR Sports Management) who is probably on a plane right now to Delhi…  I’ve never seen anyone ride so fast on a track – it was unbelievable. I’ve been to track meets and watched some of the best, but I’ve never seen someone go at it like Shane did yesterday. He first jumped on the track behind a motorbike and paced a few laps before unleashing at 73.1km/hr @ 187rpm. CRAZY.

His sessions were all about power, and you can probably tell from this shot were that comes from. The guy’s a machine. I think his legs were the size of my torso.

I just wanted to wish him the best of luck with his races  - apparently his races are on Fox between the 5th and 8th of October. Look out for him!

Bring home the gold mate!

Rokeby Studio’s site is here!

Here we are folks… wanna shoot with me in our new cyclorama? Here’s the new splashpage to our studio in Collingwood. Good work by Lach to shoot this piece of art by our main man Guy. Such an amazing space – pop  through if you’re in the area and say hi!

New images up…

Hey dudes and dudettes,

Just a quick post today –  I’ve popped some of my favourite shots from my MTB days up in my personal section! Check them out and let me know what you think! A few are going back a bit, but I’m still liking them so that’s a good sign… (told you the teaser for Life Cycles has got me inspired)

Look out MTB’ers – I’ll be after you soon ;)

Kiss Chacey Summer Shoot in LA

I’ve only just got back to Melbourne after a few weeks in the States with the Kiss Chacey Crew. Loved LA… such an HOT place to shoot! We shot on Venice beach for a day and then headed into the desert for our hero shots on Route 66. Weather was stunning and had some of the best light to shoot in all afternoon!

I can’t show any of the campaign shots – they’ll be out in a month or so – but here’s a couple of snips from our journey:

Life Cycles Teaser

So this is one of the most inspirational teasers I’ve ever seen. Derek Frankowski is one of my idols from back in the MTB days and he’s done the most amazing job creating this film – I seriously can’t wait to go out and watch it…

Here’s the teaser:

Looks like I’m going to go out and shoot some more video soon and this is going to be in the back of my mind the whole time. Amazing work Life Cycles Team!

Canon develops new sensor larger than most elephants…

The new sensor beside a 35mm Full Frame Sensor

Canon succeeds in developing world’s largest CMOS image sensor, with ultra-high sensitivity

TOKYO, August 31, 2010-Canon Inc. announced today that it has successfully developed the world’s largest*1 CMOS image sensor, with a chip size measuring 202 x 205 mm. Because its expanded size enables greater light-gathering capability, the sensor is capable of capturing images in one one-hundredth the amount of light required by a professional-model digital SLR camera.

At 202 x 205 mm, the newly developed CMOS sensor is among the largest chips that can be produced from a 12-inch (300 mm) wafer, and is approximately 40 times the size of Canon’s largest commercial CMOS sensor.*2

In the past, enlarging the size of the sensor resulted in an increase in the amount of time required between the receiving and transmission of data signals, which posed a challenge to achieving high-speed readout. Canon, however, solved this problem through an innovative circuit design, making possible the realization of a massive video-compatible CMOS sensor. Additionally, by ensuring the cleanest of cleanroom environments during the production process, the sensor minimizes image imperfections and dust.

Because the increased size of the new CMOS sensor allows more light to be gathered, it enables shooting in low-light environments. The sensor makes possible the image capture in one one-hundredth the amount of light required by a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor, facilitating the shooting of 60 frame-per-second video with a mere 0.3 lux of illumination.

Potential applications for the new high-sensitivity CMOS sensor include the video recording of stars in the night sky and nocturnal animal behavior.

Through the further development of distinctive CMOS image sensors, Canon will break new ground in the world of new image expression, in the area of still images as well as video.

Don’t know about you guys, but I’d just like to see a camera perform as it should, have a better flash sync and increased dynamic range… you think Canon should be putting their money into fixing the issues with their current cameras??

DTR Sports Management – Dan Clarke

DTR’s running guru Dan Clarke strode in front of my camera a few weeks back and did an amazing job of it. He’s a machine on the track and the shutter was struggling to keep up with him!

Check out a couple of the final images:

I’m off to LA at the end of this week to shoot Kiss Chacey’s Summer 2010-11 Campaign. Looking forward to a decent dose of sun and crazy LA/Venice Beach folks. Should make for a fun trip!

[R]evolution v20 Cover

Well I just found out today some of my shots hits the stands for the latest [R]evo mag. It’s been a little while since I shot the MTB scene but I was lucky enough to get invited to this AMAZING place in Mt Beauty (thanks JT). The Red Bull Dirtpipe was built a couple of years ago for a Red Bull BMX comp by Mitch Smith and his band of brothers – and as you can see in the shots this place is seriously amazing. I’ve never had so many angles on a bike shoot in my life!!

I was lucky enough to shoot the cover for the mag, which I’m ecstatic about. Billy is an awesome kid, and a ripping little rider… well deserved place on the front of v20!

And here’s a few more from the weekend:
