Australian MTB Magazine Cover

Pretty stoked to be shooting with the crew from AMTB on a regular basis now. They’re awesome to work with, and know their stuff backwards.

We shot this with Chris J on the weekend of the Australian MTB Nationals here in Adelaide. He completely blew the field away in both the long and short course XC events and proved his National Champ status. AMTB sub-editor Mick Ross and I pulled Chris aside and shot this cover with him just before he rolled away to his celebratory BBQ.

I’m also pretty happy with another shoot for AMTB last week which will feature another of our Adelaide MTB’s on the cover. Two in a row for me, which I’m completely amped to see. Hold out for that one… I’ll post it up when it hits the shelves.

Lifelounge Lurve

Pretty stoked to wake up this morning with an email from the Lifelounge crew telling me they’ve just posted about me on their blog. I always follow their blog for inspiration and general ‘cool’ stuff, so I’m more than happy to be amongst their ‘cool’ crew.

Check out their write-up about me here:

Life changes

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted on my blog. Mostly because my life is full at the moment – work and life changes are taking up pretty much my whole waking moments. I’ll be detailing all of these changes really soon, because I think you’ll find my story quite interesting. Look forward to writing about it.

The last eight weeks have been full-on for work as well. I’ve been shooting a lot of weddings, and a lot of mountain biking. Seems I’ve headed back to my roots! Australian MTB is an amazing magazine run my ACP Mags and I’ve been working with two of the best editors in the business Chris and Mick. I’m stoked to get back to the trails where I get my nature hit. Been really lucky to start shooting quite regularly for them, and you’ll see a cover of mine on the stands in the next couple of weeks. I’ll pop that cover up here really soon.

As for weddings – I think I’m becoming more and more addicted to shooting them. I love the long hours and the creativity you can use while joining one of the most special days in two people’s lives. The last month I have shot four in four weeks, which is quite a workload on top of my normal shooting days … but I’m revelling in it. I’m finding my style, and shooting it to bits. I’m starting another blog (designed by Mark Egan again) which will give you more of an in-depth look into my wedding photography, and I’m really happy to announce I’ll be opening my books a lot more for wedding photography in the coming seasons. I’ve found a nice balance in life now, and I’m excited about the future with my documentary styled weddings.

Just to finish off, here’s something I saw the other day, and it certainly hit the mark. It’s amazing and should be spread round the web like wildfire. I love inspiring videos and this is certainly one I’ll watch over and over.

Cheers and I’ll see you on here again really soon.

creativeLIVE courses

It seems that every stills photographer is thinking one thing at the moment. How do I incorporate motion into my world of creative?

With the introduction of DSLR HD video, filmaking is just TOO easy to get into. Most of us stills guys already have the basic kit… so why not conform? Why not just shoot that little bit of video while you’re shooting stills?

Half the battle is teaching yourself how to shoot, process and edit the files PROPERLY. Just because you know photoshop, doesn’t mean you know how to cut footage in FCP or Premiere. You need help right? Check it out … creativeLIVE.com. One of the top HdDSLR instructors in the world, Vincent Laforet has just launched his new online seminar to teach you how to do this whole motion stuff ;)

What: Moving From Stills to Video with Vincent Laforet
Where: anyone can watch at http://www.creativelive.com
When: course runs March 4, 5 and 6. Registration is now, here.

I’ll be doing it for sure. I know small things about the video world, but I’m sure it’ll help endlessly in grasping more on the technical side of that rolling shutter.

Sunny days in Sydney

I was trolling through some stuff today and found this little gem from my last trip to Sydney.

Much love to all my friends at Porch and Parlour in North Bondi – they’re killing it at the moment and I really suggest when you’re in the area to go drop in and have one of the best chai latte’s you’ll ever taste (homemade chai to be exact) and a serve of their infamous ‘smashed eggs’.

Canada Eh Part II

Great day today… headed out boarding for the first time in 18 months. Can’t believe I boarded almost 100 days in a season four years ago and I’ve only been once since. Felt like a clapped out old Gemini to tell the truth. The sun was shining beautifully this morning and we made the most of it (camera and board). Got some stuff shot on the iphone again today – check it out:

Canada Eh

I’m over in Canada at the moment on a little personal mission… just thought I’d post up some shots taken on my iphone. Really don’t know what I would do without a handy little camera like this one!! Pretty amazing change in climate when two weeks ago I was sitting on a beach in Perth in 40 degree weather.

Sophie Edington for Commonwealth Gold

I go back to the school holidays of 1999 for country elite athletes in Adelaide… I was there for my triathlons and Sophie was there for her swimming. She was a gun back then, and she’s proving it to the world she’s got what it takes – time and time again. After a huge Olympics meet in 2008 with a three gold haul, Soph came back from the recent Pan Pacs with a 50m Backstroke Gold Medal and she’s tipped to continue this form in the 50m and 100m Backstroke at Delhi! I shot her two weekends ago just before her trek over to the Commonwealth Games, so I’d say she’d be training her bum off right now getting prepared for 7 days time!

Best of luck Sophie – do us proud!!

Shane Perkins for Commonwealth Gold!

Yesterday I had the chance to shoot Shane Perkins (for DTR Sports Management) who is probably on a plane right now to Delhi…  I’ve never seen anyone ride so fast on a track – it was unbelievable. I’ve been to track meets and watched some of the best, but I’ve never seen someone go at it like Shane did yesterday. He first jumped on the track behind a motorbike and paced a few laps before unleashing at 73.1km/hr @ 187rpm. CRAZY.

His sessions were all about power, and you can probably tell from this shot were that comes from. The guy’s a machine. I think his legs were the size of my torso.

I just wanted to wish him the best of luck with his races  - apparently his races are on Fox between the 5th and 8th of October. Look out for him!

Bring home the gold mate!
